A Driver in a UNHCR Office is usually directly supervised by an Administrative Officer/Associate/Assistant or other staff member where the scale of the Operation so requires. In addition to driving the vehicle, the attendant is responsible for storing and maintaining the assigned UNHCR vehicle according to technical guidelines and specifications set by the Organization. He must follow strict instructions and safety guidelines provided by the supervisor. Although the driver’s primary job is to drive official UNHCR vehicles, he may be required to perform minor repairs and maintenance on UNHCR vehicles.
The driver has regular contact with staff within the UNHCR Office and others (including Partners, government authorities, etc.) outside UNHCR involving limited exchange of information.
All UNHCR staff are responsible for performing their duties as outlined in their job description. They do so within the mandate assigned to them, in accordance with UNHCR’s regulatory framework which includes the Charter of the United Nations, the United Nations Staff Regulations and Rules, UNHCR’s Policies and Administrative Instructions as well as relevant accountability systems. In addition, staff are required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with core, functional, cross-functional and managerial competencies and UNHCR’s core values of professionalism, integrity and respect for diversity.
- Obligation
1.Drive UNHCR vehicles for the transportation of authorized passengers, delivery, and collection of documents and other items.
2.Meet with official staff at airports or other locations and facilitate immigration and customs procedures as required.
3.Carry out daily maintenance of the vehicles assigned to you; check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc. and ensure that the UNHCR vehicles provided to you are suitable and maintained to the prescribed safety standards.
4.Perform minor repairs, arrange for other maintenance, and ensure that the vehicle is kept clean.
