Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to major humanitarian disasters around the world and helps victims survive and rebuild their lives.
For more than half a century, Tanzania has been a country of refuge, hosting one of the largest refugee populations in Africa. Currently, the country hosts approximately 287,903 Burundian and Congolese refugees, most of whom arrived in 2015 as the conflict in Burundi escalated. Until now, refugees continue to live together with the communities that receive them in Kigoma region explaining many reasons and needs. In this context, the IRC provides basic protection and assistance in the areas of Security (includes Protection and Rule of Law, Protection and Empowerment of Women, and Child Protection), Health (mental and psychological health services and reproductive health), and Education.
Job Summary:
This will be responsible for providing psychotherapy counseling to Burundian/Congo Refugees and providing guidance and supervision to the motivational staff of CMHWs regarding the delivery of MHPSS services. He/she will be involved in regular participation, facilitation, and planning of MHPSS services and activities provided in the camp. He will also liaise with the sector and other partners on mental health issues. The MHPSS facilitator position is in Nyarugusu camp.
