PSI is looking for a Project Director for an expected 3-year Malaria Eradication project to be held in Zanzibar. The Project Director will be responsible for the delivery of all aspects of the project including technical implementation, financial compliance and administration and management of project staff. The position will also lead coordination with the government, donors who fund activities to eradicate malaria in Zanzibar, and other international and national stakeholders to align with national and regional priorities, policies and interventions. The Project Director will be responsible for using evidence to improve project design and implementation and ensuring that learning is shared and used to improve outcomes. The Project Director will be the primary point of contact with project sponsors.
Your Contribution
Program Leadership and Management, including financial oversight, compliance, project management, including a subsidiary of the Swiss Institute of Tropical and Public Health, timely implementation and reporting of activities. Ensure that grant operations and sub-grant management activities are fully compliant with PSI and donor regulations and operations.
Thought Leadership / Knowledge Management and Technical Leadership of the project – Provide technical expertise throughout implementation, ensure activities and results are technically sound, responsive to local context, and optimize available resources to achieve project goals. Actively seek opportunities for collaboration and effectiveness with other donors and implementing partners and prioritize the scale and sustainability of project activities, programs, and systems. Develop a strategic external communications agenda with the leadership team to ensure lessons from implementation and research are shared and disseminated. Represent the project at internal and external forums.
People Management – plan and direct the work of project staff and short-term consultants, set individual performance goals derived from project goals for all employees on the project. Provide supervision, training and performance management, coaching and feedback.
External Representation – Building and maintaining strong and collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders in Zanzibar Malaria Eradication, including but not limited to the Zanzibar Malaria Eradication Program, the Zanzibar Ministry of Health, and various sector actors involved in achieving eradication Malaria in Zanzibar. Managing regular collaborations with WHO, the Zanzibar Malaria Eradication Committee, and other key stakeholders at a strategic level to ensure the project achieves its policy and sustainability goals and communicate with other project partners to ensure project coordination and implementation.
Donor Relations – serves as a key liaison with the Gates Foundation, as well as other donors interested in PMC.
Local representation and coordination.
What are we looking for?
- Master’s Degree in MSc, MPH, MBA, MHA, MPA or equivalent.
- At least 10 years of related work experience as an entomologist, parasitologist, or epidemiologist.
- At least 7 years of program management for international health projects in low- or middle-income countries (LMICs) is recommended.
- Ability to interpret and use standard data and make technical adjustments to achieve project results.
- Ability to coordinate and work effectively with various stakeholders at various locations and levels, including private partners, donors, government officials and organizations, technical experts, civil society organizations, community members and organizations and project support staff.
- Strong leadership skills, with demonstrated ability to collaborate and work in teams and roles. Ability to influence and motivate people and teams.
- Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with a wide network of partners and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking and planning skills, with an emphasis on the ability to work and manage the implementation of work plans.
- He knows English and Kiswahili fluently.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills.
