Good luck with your application! The Eastern Cape Department of Education is committed to the provision of equal educational opportunities for the province’s citizens, and this commitment is demonstrated through the bursary and scholarship programs the department offers. The Eastern Cape Department of Education bursaries and scholarships are designed to help students who would otherwise struggle to finance their studies, enabling them to pursue tertiary qualifications.

The department offers bursaries to both undergraduate and postgraduate students, with different amounts of funding available to each. Undergraduate bursaries can be used to cover tuition, registration, and accommodation fees; while postgraduate bursaries cover tuition and registration fees. All bursaries are subject to the number of funding requests received, the availability of resources, and the assessments and recommendations of the Department’s Bursary Allocation Committee, who makes decisions on bursary allocations.

At the same time, the Department of Education offers numerous scholarships to recognize the outstanding academic performance and leadership potential of students from the Eastern Cape. These scholarships can be applied for after successful completion of the National Senior Certificate (grade 12) examination, with applications considered on the basis of achieved exam results. Scholarships go beyond the basic provision of tuition and registration fees, and have the potential to transform the educational and career prospects of the recipients. Scholarship amounts vary based on the institution attended, working conditions and overall financial circumstances of the student.

In addition to the bursaries and scholarships available through the Eastern Cape Department of Education, a range of other grants, loans and bursaries are also available. These include financial assistance to pursue post-school education and training, as well as grants to pursue specific programmes of study, or to enable attendance at workshops and training seminars.

The Eastern Cape Department of Education bursary and scholarship programmes are an invaluable resource to those who may otherwise be unable to access tertiary education. These initiatives provide further evidence of the commitment of the department to promote access and success in education, and to ensure that hardworking Eastern Cape students can realize their full potential.
