Western Cape Education Department Bursaries

The Western Cape Department of Education (WCED) offers bursaries to qualifying and deserving applicants who are looking to pursue higher education. These bursaries are competitive and offered to South African citizens who demonstrate high academic potential.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

In order to be eligible for a WCED bursary, applicants must meet the following requirements:

    • Residence: Applicants must be South African citizens and residents of the Western Cape.

 

    • Academic Record: Applicants must have strong academic records, with existing and/or prospective studies in any field.

 

    • Financial Need: Applicants must demonstrate financial need, with existing or prospective studies which are not affordable without a bursary.

 

Applicants must also be able to demonstrate their commitment and involvement in their community, through formal and informal voluntary work, or through any other means.

Application Process

Applicants must submit a WCED bursary application form, along with all the necessary documentation and evidence of past academic achievement, community involvement and financial need. Applications may be submitted online, or through the post with a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

Closing Date

Applications for WCED bursaries must be submitted by 31 October of each year.
