2023 BTEC Level 3 Results Day: A Guide
What is Results Day?
Results Day is the long-awaited day when BTEC Level 3 students across the UK receive their grades and get confirmation of the qualifications they have achieved. It is an important milestone in the educational journey of many students, who will have worked hard to meet their goals.
When is Results Day 2023?
This year, BTEC Level 3 Results Day will take place on Thursday 20th August 2023.
What Do I Need to Do on Results Day?
On Results Day, all students will be required to:
-
- Log in: On the day, you will have to log in to your university, college or school’s website to check your results.
-
- Check for results: Each institution will provide you with a link so you can access your results.
-
- Seek advice: If you’re not sure what your results mean or how they’ll affect your future plans, seek advice from a teacher, mentor or other professional.
What Else Should I Consider?
On Results Day 2023, students should also consider:
-
- Confirmation: Results Day marks the official confirmation of your BTEC qualification. This means that future employers and other third parties will be able to verify your results.
-
- Options: Results Day is also a good time to consider your next steps. Think about whether you’d like to stay in education, pursue an apprenticeship, start looking for a job, or even take a gap year.
-
- Advice: Don’t forget to seek advice if you’re unsure about what your results mean. Speak to your teachers, mentors and other professionals for more information.
What are the different Btec grades?
The pass grades for Btec Nationals are:
- Distinction* (D*) – equivalent in the Ucas tariff to an A* at A-level
- Distinction (D) – equivalent to an A
- Merit (M) – equivalent to a C
- Pass (P) – equivalent to an E
- Near pass (N) – this grade is available on most Btec Nationals. It means that you may still be able to pass the overall course without having passed every individual unit.
Depending on the type of Btec National you’re studying you’ll receive one, two or even three grades.
- Extended Diploma – three grades
- Diploma – two grades
- Extended Certificate – one grade
How are the grades worked out?
Students are given points for each unit they’ve completed. As you’ll have been taking units throughout the course, you should already know how many points you have in some of the units.
Once you’ve finished all your units, all the points are added together and you’re awarded a final grade.
Can I get into university with a Btec?
The short answer is yes – most UK universities accept Btecs, including those in the Russell Group, and the number of students starting with a Btec is increasing every year. In 2020, 17.5% of 18-year-olds starting university had a Btec.

Conclusion
Results Day is an important milestone for BTEC Level 3 students, as it marks the official confirmation of their qualifications. On the day, students should log in to their institution’s website and check for their results. They should also consider their next steps and seek advice if they are unsure of what their results mean. On Tuesday 11th May 2023, thousands of BTEC Level 3 students across the UK will eagerly await the results of their hard work and dedication.
After months of preparation and revision, the time has come for young people to find out the fruits of their labour. BTEC Level 3 diplomas and certificates have become increasingly popular as a way for students to pursue further education for jobs or to access university courses.
Many of the BTEC Level 3 courses (such as Business and ICT) have been adapted and converted to online formats due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. Despite being able to study from the comfort of their own homes, the course content has remained challenging and requires students to demonstrate the same knowledge and skills as those studying in the traditional classroom setting.
Therefore, the wait for students and their families will be heightened by this uncertainty, but hopefully be overcome by a sense of accomplishment. The added bonus of BTEC Level 3 is that their qualifications are widely recognised by both employers and higher education (HE) institutes.
On the morning of results day, students can access their results either in school or via the Edexcel website. They will receive their results by email, text or post. Those who fail to obtain the required grades may still be able to progress to the next level in their chosen course, depending on the college or university’s procedures.
Ultimately, the hard work and preparation of BTEC Level 3 students is about to be recognised and their futures are about to be determined. It all comes down to the 11th May 2023 and wishing them the best of luck for their results.
