Life Orientation Grade 12 Task 3: Project Memo Answers 2023
In Term 2 of the Grade 12 Life Orientation curriculum, students were tasked with creating a project memo in response to a problem statement. In this memo, students were required to identify the problem, analyze the situation to understand why it was a problem, explore potential solutions and make recommendations for further action. As part of the assessment for this project, teachers provided sample answers to the prompt. Below are some of the samples responses to the task that teachers have provided to help students understand what is expected.
Problem Identification and Analysis
The problem statement given was that the high drop-out rate of Grade 12 students is a significant problem, both in South Africa and worldwide. The analysis must then identify what factors are contributing to the high drop-out rate, such as lack of access to necessary resources, lack of parental support, poverty and other factors that may influence a student’s decision to leave school.
- Provide access to necessary resources, such as textbooks and other school supplies.
- Provide scholarships or other forms of financial aid to help students and their families.
- Provide mentoring and support for students with difficulties in learning or managing the demands of school.
- Ensure that learning environments are safe for students and conducive to learning.
- Engage with parents or caregivers to encourage participation and provide support for their children.
Recommendations for Further Action
In order to ensure that all Grade 12 students stay in school and complete their education, it is important that the school and the community take proactive steps to address the problem. Recommended steps include:
- Provide a wide range of resources and support to all students in order to meet their individual needs.
- Create a network of mentors to provide guidance and emotional support to at-risk students.
- Involve parents or caregivers in their child’s education to ensure that they are aware of and supportive of their child’s academic and social progress.
- Evaluate the school’s curriculum to ensure that students are engaged, motivated and encouraged to stay in school.
- Provide additional teacher training to enable teachers to address the varied needs of their students.
- Establish programs and initiatives that work to reduce poverty and improve the overall health and wellbeing of the community and its citizens.
The high drop-out rate among Grade 12 students is a concerning issue, both in South Africa and around the world. The school and the community must take proactive steps in order to ensure that all students have access to the resources and support they need to stay in school and complete their education. By using the steps recommended above, schools and communities can work together to reduce the drop-out rate and provide a high-quality education to every student in their area. It is with great pleasure that we bring to your attention the third project memo of life orientation for grade 12 learners in the academic year 2023.
This project is intended to encourage learners to reflect on their own lives and personal development by exploring the nature and purpose of life orientation education. Through completing this project learners will develop valuable skills that will assist them in their lives both now and in the future.
For this project the learners will be given a list of five life orientations-related topics and be required to carry out research, literature review and reflection on the topics given. They will compile their findings into an informative memo, which will serve as a summative assessment of their understanding and attitudes towards life orientation topics.
Learners will be given ample opportunity to discuss their findings and opinions on the topics with their peers and class tutor, which should help foster a positive, reflective learning environment.
It is expected that during the project learners will develop a greater understanding and knowledge of topics related to life orientation. They will also be able to apply their skills of research, analysis and engagement in discussions with their peers.
It is our sincerest hope that this project will help the learners to gain valuable insights about the nature and purpose of life orientation, so that they can effectively apply their knowledge and skills to further their own lives and development.
We thank you for your continued support and look forward to seeing the outcome of your hard work.
